What the President REALLY Wants?

Interesting view from political pundit Charles Krauthammer:
" I think the president has made a strategic decision at the end of last year that his only hope for reelection is to go against the Republicans, to do a Truman and say it's a do-nothing congress. He doesn't want agreement.
"He could have a tax reform in a month. He knows that. He doesn't want that. He thinks his only chance given the record he had, and it isn't a strong one, is run on division and to say: 'I believe in the middle class. I believe in equality. I believe that Romney for example ought to be paying higher taxes.'"

-- Charles Krauthammer on "Special Report with Bret Baier."

Keystone XL Pipeline

President Obama has put politics ahead of what's good for the country by all but eliminating the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would go along way toward job creation and energy independence. This gets under my skin. I have never written to one of my congress persons or senators as I always thought it would just be another letter that got tossed and not read. But I did this time, to Senator Bob Corker (R) Tennessee. To my surprise I received an answer, and while it may be a form letter, it delves into my concerns and and his stand on the issue...I appreciate that. I share that letter with you:

Dear Mr. Harrison,

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office with your support for the Keystone XL pipeline. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

As you know, it was recently announced that a permit for the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline from the U.S.-Canadian border in Montana to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast has been formally denied by the Obama administration. This decision is disturbing and puts election year politics ahead of economic growth and energy security.

I couldn't agree with you more about the importance of approving the Keystone XL pipeline. With the unemployment rate near 9%, it is entirely unreasonable for the administration to reject a project that reports indicate would have created up to 20,000 direct jobs immediately and could have created tens of thousands of indirect jobs. Further, its rejection inhibits U.S. access to 800,000 barrels of Canadian oil daily from a stable and dependable economic partner, reinforcing our dependence on the Middle East and other volatile oil producing countries. Additionally, the State Department had already conducted a thorough review of the environmental impacts of the Keystone XL pipeline, finding that it would have no significant impact on the environment.

At a time when growing our economy and promoting American jobs should be our first priority, the administration has consistently hindered our prospects for growth through overzealous regulations and inexcusable inactions that have taken us further away from energy independence. Securing America's energy future must be a national goal that comes ahead of politics. As your Senator and a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, I will continue to work responsibly to secure America's energy future, protecting both our national and economic security for generations to come.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me.
Sincerely,

Bob Corker
United States Senator

Not Jobs, Just Politics!

If I hear one more time Barack Obama say his main priority is jobs, I'm going to throw up. His actions today, in denying a permit for the Keystone pipeline project proves he has no interest in putting Americans back to work....in fact, as a Socialist, it's just the opposite.
Instead he has bowed down to the tree hugging environmentalists to put it off until after the election, if ever. This project would have put thousands back to work, not only on the pipeline itself, but in spinoff businesses as well. But the President chose to play politics with the lives of unemployed Americans, yours truly included. His "excuse" was that there was not enough time to meet the Republicans deadline and get an environmental impact study done. Pardon my French, but that's bulls..t! This project has been on the table for the three years Mr. Obama has been president.
So, Mr. President, don't tell us that you're main priority is to put americans back to work....YOU BLEW IT!

The First Lady of Greed!

Well, I'm late with this as it's old news and the first couple and their off-spring are back in D.C. but since it involves tax-payer money, it's still relevant.
Before Christmas, The Daily Mail reported that the first couple would be off on another vacation ( how many is that now?) again to Hawaii. Now while, I don't begrudge the President a Christmas vacation, the trip to Hawaii was expected to cost taxpayers almost $4 million, and is the latest example of Michelle Obama's skyrocketing spending, sources told the National Enquirer, according to The Daily Mail. Based on her extravagant trips, the First Lady has taken a page out of her husband's over- the- top spending habits as we have seen with his increasing the deficit over the last three years.

This time, however, kudos to the President, for while her husband reportedly had said he preferred a short trip to the presidential retreat at Camp David, Md., Michelle  insisted on the pricey Hawaiian holiday, according to news accounts. “The President’s advisers have told him that Michelle’s spending has spiralled completely out of control,” the National Enquirer quoted one source as saying. “Barack read his wife the riot act, but his words fell on deaf ears. Michelle said there was 'no way' she was going to disappoint her daughters."
Whoa!!!! The greed of this lady! Not to mention the arrogance! Especially when $4 mil of taxpayer money is funding that greed.
Memo to the Chief Executive: Grow a pair, Sir! Be assertive! wear the pants!

post script: It was reported this week that Mrs. Obama flaunted her in-your-face attitude by wearing a $500 pair of tennis shoes to a food bank kitchen. Surely she had a $200 pair in her closet!
