Every week along about Friday, new numbers come out regarding the employment situation in this country. When President Bush left office 4 1/2 years ago the unemployment rate stood at 7%. President Obama took office on January 20, 2009 with that 7% rate, which grew to 9.4 % in August, 2010. This was a 30 year high and only started to decline ever so slowly through 2011 when it reached 8% in January, 2012 and now sits at 7.6%.
To hear the liberal talking heads, politicians and the president himself, they would have you believe all is well in the world of work, despite millions still unemployed. But there is a dirty little secret they don't want you to know. The weekly and monthly numbers include part-time and temporary workers. Using temporary and PT workers to try and lower the unemployment rate is a political ploy and a scam. It doesn't show the true picture.
Last Friday's report on the job front was disappointing and revealed that part-time jobs are at an all time high for this country. We now have 28 million people working part time. Of the this number, 2.7 million are jobs of a temporary nature. In other words, they aren't permanent and people who hold them will once again be out of work sooner or later. These temporary jobs are are the result of staffing agencies providing companies with workers. The irony is while Walmart is the largest employer in the country, Kelly Services, a temporary work provider, is now the second largest.
This is a sad commentary on the state of the working world in this country. Last month saw a 6.7% growth in staffing temporary jobs over the same month (June) last year. And while temporary and lower paying jobs were up last month, full time jobs decreased by 240,000.
They talk about a recovery. There is no recovery. The dirty little secret is out.
